Frameworks

A framework is a guide that explains various health care professions and can be used to teach students about profession-specific academics, extracurriculars, program admission requirements, and more from their freshman through senior years of high school.

Pathfinder Academy

Pathfinder Academy is an educator-focused workshop where teachers, counselors, and administrators receive training on various health science programs available at local colleges, in order to become health science advisors for their districts. Our virtual Pathfinders Academies were broken down into individual segments and are available to view here!

Cybermentoring

Cybermentoring sessions are video conferences between students and health care professionals. During these sessions, the health care professionals share their journey to their career and what they do on a day-to-day basis, while also answering questions students ask. These sessions not only provide students with inspiring stories of valley natives, but give them insight and information on how to make their aspiring careers a reality.

Clinical Research Internship

The PATHS Project teamed up with DHR Health to create a first-of-its-kind translational and clinical research internship in the Rio Grande Valley. This summer internship was organized to build high school students’ understanding and knowledge of how clinical research is conducted and its impact on human health, as well as build their interest in pursuing careers in health science. Students had the opportunity to tour DHR Health facilities and learn from professionals who they aspire to become.

Student Conferences

Student Conferences feature multiple breakout sessions where various health care professionals explain to the students what their jobs involve on a day-to-day basis and demonstrate this wither through their technological instruments and simulations or through scenarios. We have student conferences for elementary, middle, and high school students that were broken down into individual segments and are available to view here!

Certified Nursing Assistant Certification Cohort

The PATHS Project, RGV College and DHR Health worked together to provide high school students the opportunity to enroll and complete an intense 5-week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification course. Students also participated in lunch & learns where they were afforded the opportunity to speak with and learn from working professionals at DHR Health.

Teacher Externship

The PATHS Project brought together our Pathfinder Academy and Internship events and merged them to create a unique Teacher Externship experience at DHR Health. Educators from our partnered school districts networked with Workforce Solutions, DHR Health, and University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley representatives to learn about and explore new health science opportunities for students in the Rio Grande Valley.
